Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in my garden, home, and travel! Enjoy.

Powder Room Makeover

Powder Room Makeover

The powder room on our main floor is deep, narrow and windowless! With the exception of fresh paint above the bead board and throwing down a small rug to cover the linoleum, we did little with the space after moving in. Itching for a small project, I decided to finally give this small space a bit of attention and I am so happy I did! I love the way the bathroom turned out and think it is such a perfect reflection of my style!

Check out the before and after images below! I forgot to take a photo of the before so I pulled this “before” from the 2015 real estate listing. As always, you can click on the photos to enlarge.

We started the project by removing the linoleum and refinishing the hardwood floors underneath. We use Alpine Wood Flooring out of Newtown Square, PA for all of our hardwood flooring needs and they have always done a fantastic job.

I love the color of the hardwood with newly painted bead board. I chose Benjamin Moore Greyhound on the lower walls and ceiling.

We replaced the old toilet with a new Toto Promenade model. Toto is definitely a bit more expensive than other toilet brands but it came highly recommended by our plumber so we bit the bullet and purchased one. It has been great so far! I updated the standard chrome toilet lever to a fancier brass handle and I absolutely love it! Note: if you are going to exchange your toilet handle, make sure you check to see if the model you like is for a side-mount handle or a front-mount. The handle I ordered is technically front-mount, so I had to make some adjustments to make it work with our side-mount handle toilet.

I kept the original sink but updated it with a new, Kingston Brass faucet from Build.com. I added a sink skirt to hide the unattractive, exposed plumbing. The fabric is called Isabella Green Fabric from Ballard Designs. I ordered two yards and brought it to a local shop in King of Prussia, Steve’s Sewing. Ivette at Steve’s Sewing was incredibly helpful in making the skirt and also in properly attaching it to my sink with industrial Velcro. I am so happy with how the skirt turned out! As a bonus, we can now hide a basket of toilet paper and other bathroom supplies under the sink!

I love the wood pedestal table I added to the bathroom corner! Of course, when Alex first saw it he said, “Why is there a table in the bathroom?” Haha! I can’t wait to have roses blooming in my garden again in a few months. I plan to keep a fresh bouquet on this table in the powder room. Since taking these photos, I have added a tissue box with this charming Bunny Williams cover to the side table as well. It is a great spot to drop your phone or a clutch while using the rest room!

As for the wall art, it is a collection of pieces I have acquired over time from our travels, my parents, and a local consignment shop. The only new piece I purchased for the bathroom is a Laurel Dawn Corner Studio print which is right above the small lettuce ware dish. Because the space is so tiny, I wanted to use art to add a lot of interest and character. I am sure that over the coming months and years I will be consistently rotating the art in this powder room as we travel to new places and find new pieces that we love!

What do you think of our little makeover? I hope you like it!
